RFR: Quickies!

Yet again, the Friday Rants and Raves have been few and far between, but today had a few news stories I just cant help talking a punch or two at.

Apple Vs. Adobe
First we had Steve Jobs “Thoughts on Flash” article, now we have the Adobe CEO’s response. In the end, it’s all a bunch of hullaballoo about nothing. Flash is not coming to the iPhone and Adobe just does not want to wake up and smell the coffee that Flash is dying. It’s not like there is some mass of people not buying the iPhone since it does not have Flash. And if there are, news flash: no phone has Flash yet. And its not like the iPhone users are missing out on some boatload of content either. Most of the “Good” flash games have already been ported, which leaves flash for video sites and poorly designed websites. For the most part I can get by with just YouTube for video. As for the poorly designed websites, I have no remorse for them, time to update to new standards.

In the end, its just more fuel for the PC vs Mac and Other Smartphone vs iPhone crowd. Nothing is gained from this posturing by either company except the general publics perception of 2 kids fighting over toys.

The Death of the Courier and the HP Slate
I seriously don’t get it. What do we need to do to get Microsoft to realize there is a market for a more powerful full OS based Tablet-PC? Today, not only did Microsoft announce That the “Courier” project was dead, but HP also announced that they have killed the HP Slate. I mean it does not take a genius to see that there is a market for something between a phone and a laptop. Sure, that line is pretty blurry right now, and it would be a tight fit, but I for one would not mind a smaller netbook for day-to-day mobile use! Both the Courier and the HP Slate had a lot of buzz around them, and maybe that’s why they got killed off, but I just don’t get it. Yes, Microsoft, you may make a flop of a device, maybe you fail once or twice, but JUST TRY and see what you come up with! The Courier was very interesting and had great potential! Keep trying until you run out of cake, I mean, money.

Valve Collectibles
Team Fortress 2 Action Figures!?

Very simple here: WANT!
